The joys of being engaged married to a woman that writes for a blog means I get roped into writing from the firefighter perspective. Its okay, the perks are pretty fantastic.
There is a post going around about the 10 Commandments of being a FireWife… the last line basically said that the only commandment of a firefighter was to marry a woman that is fire strong. While I believe that my job is important, I don't believe I am my job or that its a birthright. I also believe that I have more responsibilities to my family than to my job.
Here are my 10 realistic commandments of being a firefighter:
10. Thou shall never say the “Q” word while on duty
9. Thou shall wave and bump the siren for kids
8. Thou shall always remember, you are only human
7. Thou shall never start eating before the cook sits down
6. Thou shall adhere to the K.I.S.S. method of problem solving
5. Thou shall expect Mr. Murphy on every call
4. Thou shall always remember you family comes first
3. Thou shall never promote past your happiness
2. Thou shall be professional at all times, you never know who is watching
1. Thou shall kiss your wife and tell her you love her, Every Day
